Secondary surveillance radar - A Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR) is a radio interrogator device installed in air traffic control facilities, and radio transponder devices that are installed in aircraft. The purpose of this system is to improve the ability to detect and identify aircraft while it additionally provides automatically the Flight Level (pressure altitude) of a flight.
Terrain-following radar - Terrain-following radar is an aerospace technology that allows a very-low-flying aircraft to automatically maintain a constant altitude. It is sometimes referred-to as ground hugging, terrain hugging or nap of the earth flight.
Gulf Air Flight 072 - On August 23, 2000, Gulf Air Flight 072 crashed into the Persian Gulf on approach to Bahrain International Airport. The Airbus A320 with 143 passengers and crew on board was seen with one of its engines apparently on fire shortly before it disappeared from radar screens.
